Ebola experts speak out against quarantines
Despite the hysteria stirred up by the recent returns of Ebola-fighting medical workers Dr. Craig Spencer and Kaci Hickox,
experts at a Core Club panel on the virus insisted it must be made easy
for doctors and nurses to return to the US with no quarantines after
traveling to infected areas.
“When they get back, if we make it harder, if they are pariahs, if their kids are stigmatized, it will be harder to find people to do this kind of work,” said NY Department of Health bioterrorism expert Dr. Joel Ackelsberg.
To eradicate the disease, it must be fought in Africa, he said.
The timely panel was hosted by Mount Sinai Health System surgeon-in-chief Dr. Michael Marin and Caryn Zucker, with Deborah Roberts as moderator.
